I really don't think swimming translates well to other athletic abilities. Is Phelps the greatest swimmer ever, by far. Is Phelps one of the better endurance athletes of all time? Yeah, possibly. So he can swim fast and hes got great endurance. Lets see him run, dunk a basketball, hit a baseball, box.

Here's the difference: Did Jordan win a world title EVERY year he played? Was he absolutely perfect every time he stepped on the court? Phelps has been exactly that while competing against the best in the world,not the league. This would be the equivalent of MJ breaking the scoring record per game each time he played,and it would be vs the NBA All-Stars.
